The Zamfara State Government steps up security measures in Gwargwabe village, Bungudu Local Government Area, following a deadly bandit attack that leaves several residents dead and properties destroyed.

The attack occurs on Thursday evening before Maghrib prayers, when armed bandits storm Gwargwabe in the Nahuche District, setting houses and food storage facilities ablaze and killing residents, Mediaplusng.com reports. Four people, including three men and one woman, are burnt to death, while livestock and valuables are lost in the violence.

The incident follows a similar assault just two days earlier, during which three more residents are killed, raising the death toll in the community to seven within a short period. The repeated attacks plunge the village into mourning and heighten fears over persistent insecurity in the area.

In response, Governor Dauda Lawal, represented by his Deputy, Malami Mani Mummuni, leads a state government delegation to Gwargwabe to attend funeral prayers and burial rites for the victims, Mediaplusng.com understands. The Deputy Governor conveys the Governor’s condolences to the affected families and expresses sympathy to the entire community.

He reassures residents that the Zamfara State Government remains fully committed to tackling banditry and restoring peace. According to him, the government will continue to deploy all lawful and strategic measures to protect lives and property across the state, while urging citizens to remain resilient and prayerful.

During the visit, the Matawallen Bukkuyum announces government approval for the establishment of a military base in Gwargwabe. He describes the move as a proactive step aimed at strengthening security presence, improving rapid response, and deterring further criminal attacks in the area.

Community members are also encouraged to cooperate with security agencies by providing timely and credible intelligence. Officials stress that unity and information-sharing remain critical to ending the cycle of violence affecting rural communities in Zamfara.

As part of immediate humanitarian support, the state government distributes 100 bags of assorted food items and releases ₦10 million to assist victims and ease the impact of the attacks. Special prayers are offered for the souls of the deceased and for strength for their grieving families.

The Deputy Governor is accompanied by the Speaker of the Zamfara State House of Assembly, Hon. Bilyaminu Ismail Moriki, the Chairman of Bungudu Local Government, Alhaji Nura, and other senior government officials, as the state reiterates its resolve to secure vulnerable communities.
