A joint security task force safely neutralises an improvised explosive device (IED) planted along the Danjibga–Kuncin Kalgo road in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State, preventing what authorities describe as a potential threat to commuters and nearby communities.

Mediaplusng.com reports that the coordinated operation takes place around 8:00 a.m. on Friday, February 6, 2026, following credible intelligence about a suspicious object on the busy axis. The prompt response helps avert panic and ensures the safety of motorists, traders, and residents who rely on the route daily.

According to security sources, the operation involves a combined team drawn from the Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal–Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (EOD–CBRN) Unit, the Police Anti-Kidnapping Unit, and the Military Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit. The exercise is supported by armed personnel from the Zamfara State Police Command to secure the environment throughout the operation.

Mediaplusng.com further reports that the mission is led by SP Abdulrazak Musa Hassan, with officers applying established safety protocols to handle the device. Security officials say the professional handling of the situation prevents casualties and restores confidence among road users.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer in Zamfara State, DSP Yazid Abubakar, confirms that the device is identified as a pressure-plate IED believed to have been planted by suspected terrorists. He explains that the device is discovered during a routine security sweep of the area.

DSP Abubakar states that the joint team follows standard render-safe procedures to neutralise the explosive without triggering an explosion. He adds that all explosive components are carefully recovered and secured for further forensic examination to aid ongoing investigations.

Security operatives also conduct a thorough sweep of the surrounding area after the device is neutralised. The police spokesperson confirms that no additional explosive threats are found along the axis after technical assessments are completed.

Following the operation, authorities officially declare the Danjibga–Kuncin Kalgo road safe for movement. Vehicular traffic resumes under monitoring, with security personnel maintaining a visible presence to reassure the public and deter further threats.

Residents and commuters in the area express relief after the successful operation, noting that the road serves as a key link between several communities in Tsafe Local Government Area. Many say the timely intervention prevents possible loss of lives and disruption of economic activities.

Security analysts say the incident highlights the evolving tactics of criminal and terrorist groups in parts of Zamfara State, including the use of explosive devices to target roads and public spaces. They stress the importance of intelligence-led policing and inter-agency cooperation in countering such threats.

The Zamfara State Police Command reiterates its commitment to working closely with the military and other security agencies to maintain peace and stability across the state. Officials say joint patrols, surveillance, and community engagement remain central to current security strategies.

DSP Abubakar urges members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movement, objects, or activities to the nearest security agency. He emphasizes that timely and credible information from residents plays a critical role in preventing attacks and saving lives.

The police spokesperson also advises road users to cooperate with security checkpoints and follow safety instructions, noting that such measures are put in place to protect lives and property.

Zamfara State has faced persistent security challenges in recent years, including banditry, kidnapping, and attacks on rural communities. Authorities say continued collaboration between security forces and local communities is essential to reversing the trend.

The state government and security agencies assure residents that proactive measures are being intensified to secure major roads, towns, and villages. Officials say patrols and intelligence operations will continue as part of broader efforts to restore normalcy.

As investigations continue, security agencies promise to bring those responsible for planting the explosive device to justice. They also reassure the public that every effort is being made to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The successful neutralisation of the IED on the Danjibga–Kuncin Kalgo road is seen by authorities as a reminder of the importance of vigilance, cooperation, and swift response in addressing security threats across Zamfara State and the wider North-West region.
