The Kebbi State Police Command confirms that 33 people lose their lives in a deadly attack on Bui District in Arewa Local Government Area, following an armed cattle-rustling incident that escalates into violent confrontation.

According to Mediaplusng.com, the confirmation is contained in an official statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, who states that the tragic incident occurs on February 18, 2025, prompting immediate security intervention in the affected communities.

Police authorities explain that in response to the attack, the Command, in collaboration with the military and other security agencies, deploys additional personnel and operational assets to Bui District and surrounding areas. Sustained area domination patrols are currently underway to restore calm and prevent further breakdown of law and order.

Mediaplusng.com reports that the Police Command expresses deep regret over the loss of innocent lives and extends heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and the wider Arewa community. The Command assures residents that decisive steps are being taken to stabilize the district.

Preliminary investigations indicate that suspected Lakurawa militants enter Bui District with the intention of rustling cattle. Authorities believe the attackers cross into the area from Gudu Local Government Area in neighboring Sokoto State before launching the assault.

According to Mediaplusng.com, residents from Mamunu, Awasaka, Tungan Tsoho, Makangara, Kanzo, Gorun Naidal, and Dan Mai Ago reportedly mobilize in response to the intrusion, leading to a fatal confrontation between locals and the armed group.

Security sources state that the confrontation escalates rapidly due to the presence of heavily armed assailants. The clash results in significant casualties, marking one of the most devastating security incidents in the area in recent times.

The Police Command emphasizes that situations involving armed criminal elements require coordinated and professional security operations. Authorities caution that direct engagement by civilians often increases casualties and complicates rescue and enforcement efforts.

Residents are strongly advised to report suspicious movements or threats through established security channels rather than confronting attackers directly. Law enforcement agencies stress that timely intelligence sharing is crucial to preventing future tragedies.

Security analysts observe that cattle rustling and cross-border armed incursions remain persistent challenges in parts of northwestern Nigeria, often requiring enhanced inter-state collaboration and proactive surveillance strategies.

The Kebbi State Police reiterate their commitment to tracking down the perpetrators, preventing recurrence, and strengthening early warning mechanisms across vulnerable communities in Arewa LGA.

As investigations continue, security agencies maintain a visible presence in Bui District, reassuring residents that every effort is being made to restore lasting peace and ensure that those responsible for the attack face justice under the law.
