The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, leads a delegation of Rivers State political leaders to London on a condolence visit to the family of late Senator Barinada Mpigi, describing him as a dependable ally and strong pillar in Rivers politics.

According to Mediaplusng.com, the visit takes place days after the senator representing Rivers South-East Senatorial District dies at the age of 64 following a brief illness, drawing tributes from political stakeholders within and outside Rivers State.

Speaking during the condolence visit to the senator’s wife, Mrs. Patricia Obiageri Mpigi, and her children, Wike says the death of Senator Mpigi is not only a loss to the Ogoni people of Rivers State but also to Nigeria as a whole. He describes the late lawmaker as a loyal friend who stands by his allies through difficult times.

Mediaplusng.com reports that the Minister, who travels with a delegation of Rivers leaders, assures the bereaved family of continued support and promises that the late senator will be accorded a befitting burial in recognition of his contributions to public service and state politics.

In an emotion-filled address, Wike notes that although death is inevitable, the timing remains beyond human control. He recalls his long-standing relationship with Mpigi, revealing that both men serve together as council chairmen and maintain a close political and personal bond over the years.

In further remarks obtained by Mediaplusng.com, Wike describes the late senator as a strong pillar in Rivers State politics, emphasizing his steadfastness and loyalty. According to him, Mpigi is known for standing firmly with his friends and maintaining his convictions without wavering.

He tells the family that many associates still struggle to come to terms with the senator’s passing, adding that his absence will be deeply felt, especially at a time when his experience and counsel are needed.

The Minister underscores that while nothing can reverse the loss, the delegation stands united in offering comfort and solidarity to the family. He assures them that the leadership of Rivers State remains committed to honoring Mpigi’s legacy.

Wike also conveys that some elder statesmen of Rivers politics, including Chief Ferdinand Alabraba, Chief OCJ Okocha and Sergeant Awuse, are unable to make the trip due to age considerations but send their condolences through the delegation.

Members of the delegation accompanying the Minister include his sons, Jordan and Joaquin, Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, Senators Magnus Abe, Allwell Onyesoh and Olaka Nwogu, as well as Rivers State Peoples Democratic Party Chairman, Aaron Chukwuemeka, alongside other party leaders.

During the visit, Wike reiterates that the late senator’s life and political impact leave an enduring mark on Rivers State and beyond. He prays for strength and fortitude for the family to bear what he describes as an irreparable loss.

Responding on behalf of the family, Mrs. Patricia Mpigi expresses appreciation for the Minister’s presence and support, thanking him and the delegation for standing by them during the difficult period.
