Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), operating under Operation Hadin Kai, repel multiple coordinated attacks by suspected ISWAP fighters on Forward Operating Bases in Borno State, recovering weapons and an armed drone while maintaining control of all positions.

Mediaplusng.com reports that the attacks target FOB Mayanti, Gajigana, and Gajiram between the late hours of February 28 and the early hours of March 1, 2026. Military authorities describe the assaults as signs of mounting pressure on terrorist enclaves and logistics corridors in the North-East theatre of operations.

In a statement issued by the Media Information Officer of the task force, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, the military says the coordinated assaults reflect what it calls the growing desperation of insurgent elements facing sustained offensives against their leadership and supply structures.

Mediaplusng.com gathers that troops at Gajigana successfully repel the attack and retain full operational control of the base. At Mayanti and Gajiram, intense firefights reportedly result in significant casualties among the attackers and the recovery of substantial combat equipment.

According to the military, at about 11:00 p.m. on February 28, FOB Mayanti comes under heavy assault by a large number of armed insurgents. Reinforcements reportedly navigate ambushes and improvised explosive device threats to support defending troops, who hold their ground despite sustained enemy fire.

Mediaplusng.com understands that post-operation exploitation confirms the recovery of several weapons, including PKT automatic anti-aircraft guns, RPG-7 launchers, AK-47 rifles, FN rifles, RPG bombs, and large quantities of 7.62mm ammunition. Blood trails along withdrawal routes suggest additional casualties among the attackers. The military also confirms that one officer loses his life during the encounter.

Hours later, at approximately 1:15 a.m. on March 1, terrorists reportedly launch another assault on FOB Gajiram using PKT guns, rocket-propelled grenades, and an armed drone. Troops, supported by air assets, repel the attack after a fierce exchange.

Recovered items along the withdrawal route include AK-47 rifles, anti-tank bombs, locally fabricated mortar bombs, a captured armed drone, loaded magazines, barbed wire cutters, specialized ammunition, and other equipment abandoned during retreat. One wounded soldier is airlifted by a Nigerian Army Aviation helicopter for advanced medical treatment.

In a separate ambush operation around Bulturam Corner and Dadingel in Gujba Local Government Area, troops neutralize additional insurgents and recover firearms and other materials. Military authorities affirm that all targeted locations remain firmly under government control.

Security analysts note that the recovery of heavy weapons and drone technology highlights evolving tactics in the insurgency. However, they add that sustained ground offensives and coordinated air support continue to degrade the operational capacity of ISWAP elements in the region.

Operation Hadin Kai reiterates its commitment to maintaining pressure on insurgent groups, safeguarding communities, and restoring lasting stability in Nigeria’s North-East. The military emphasizes that ongoing intelligence-driven operations will continue to target terrorist strongholds and disrupt their capabilities.
