The Nigeria Police Force in Borno State is recording a major breakthrough in its fight against crime, successfully rescuing a seven-year-old kidnapping victim and arresting five suspects linked to the incident in Maiduguri.

The operation follows a report of the child’s abduction at the Chad Basin area of Maiduguri on March 23, 2026, prompting swift intervention by security operatives. According to Mediaplusng.com, the victim is rescued unharmed and immediately taken to a medical facility for examination and care.

Authorities say the case is reported to the State Criminal Investigation Department, triggering coordinated investigative efforts aimed at tracking the perpetrators and securing the safe return of the child.

Investigators reveal that the suspects initially contact the victim’s family through a concealed phone number, demanding a ransom of ten million naira, which is later negotiated down to eight million naira.

According to Mediaplusng.com, a sum of one million five hundred thousand naira is eventually paid into an account provided by the suspects, creating a digital trail that becomes crucial to the investigation.

Police detectives deploy digital forensic tools to trace the financial transaction, leading to the arrest of a Point-of-Sale operator identified as Musa Mohammed Bashir, whose account is allegedly used to receive the ransom payment.

Security operatives carry out follow-up raids and intelligence-driven operations, resulting in the arrest of four additional suspects connected to the crime within the Chad Basin and Bulabulin Alajiri areas of Maiduguri.

Authorities confirm that the sum of one million five hundred thousand naira, suspected to be ransom money, is recovered during the operation, strengthening evidence against the suspects.

The Borno State Police Command describes the operation as a significant milestone in ongoing efforts to combat kidnapping and other violent crimes across the state.

Police leadership acknowledges the role of coordinated intelligence, rapid response, and technological support in achieving the successful rescue and arrests.

The rescued child is reported to be in stable condition, with medical personnel conducting necessary checks to ensure his full recovery before reunification with his family.

Authorities state that further investigations are ongoing to uncover additional accomplices and dismantle any wider criminal network associated with the suspects.

Police confirm that all five suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations, in line with due process and the rule of law.

Residents are encouraged to remain alert and report suspicious activities, as law enforcement agencies intensify efforts to curb criminal activities in the region.

The police reiterate their commitment to leveraging intelligence and technology to enhance public safety and respond effectively to emerging security threats.

The successful rescue operation underscores growing efforts by security agencies to address kidnapping and related crimes, particularly in vulnerable communities.

The Nigeria Police Force assures the public of its continued dedication to protecting lives and property, while urging cooperation from citizens to sustain progress in the fight against crime.
