President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is paying tribute to fallen Nigerian soldiers, describing them as unforgettable heroes following a deadly terrorist attack on a military formation in Benisheikh, Borno State.
According to Mediaplusng.com, the President expresses deep sorrow over the loss of troops from the 29 Task Force Brigade under Operation HADIN KAI, who die while defending their base against a coordinated insurgent assault in the North-East region.
The attack, confirmed by the Defence Headquarters, occurs in the early hours of April 9, 2026, when terrorists attempt to breach the military camp but are met with strong resistance from Nigerian forces.
In a statement issued by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, the President extends heartfelt condolences to the families of the fallen soldiers and the entire Armed Forces of Nigeria.
He commends the courage, bravery, and professionalism displayed by the troops, noting that their sacrifice prevents terrorists from overrunning communities and destabilizing the region.
President Tinubu emphasizes that the insurgents’ attack reflects desperation, as Nigerian forces continue sustained land and air offensives that have significantly weakened terrorist groups across the North-East.
He assures that the Federal Government remains committed to supporting the military with necessary equipment, intelligence, and welfare packages to enhance operational effectiveness.
According to Mediaplusng.com, the President calls on military leadership and frontline troops to remain resolute, urging them not to be discouraged but to draw strength from national support and appreciation.
He stresses that the sacrifices of the fallen soldiers will never be forgotten, reaffirming the government’s determination to defeat terrorism and restore lasting peace across Nigeria.
The President also appeals to Nigerians and the media to support the Armed Forces by promoting unity, responsible reporting, and national solidarity in the fight against insurgency and banditry.
Security analysts highlight that public support and accurate information dissemination are critical in counterterrorism operations, helping to build trust and strengthen collaboration between citizens and security agencies.
President Tinubu reiterates that the government will continue working closely with the Borno State Government to improve security, rebuild affected communities, and ensure the safe return of displaced persons.
He further emphasizes that honoring fallen heroes goes beyond words, requiring sustained commitment to improving the welfare of serving personnel and the families of those who make the ultimate sacrifice.
Military experts note that the resilience shown by troops in repelling the attack demonstrates growing operational capacity and improved coordination within Nigeria’s security architecture.
The President concludes by urging citizens to remain united, vigilant, and supportive, stressing that national security is a collective responsibility that requires cooperation at all levels.
As the nation mourns, the legacy of the fallen soldiers continues to inspire renewed determination in the ongoing fight against terrorism and violent extremism.
