Zamfara State is gaining renewed international attention as the United Nations confirms that the state is now accessible, stable enough for engagement, and open to stronger global partnerships aimed at development and recovery.
According to Mediaplusng.com, the United Nations Deputy Secretary-General, Amina Mohammed, makes the declaration during an official visit to Zamfara State, where she engages with government officials, development partners, and field actors across multiple sectors.
Her visit includes an on-the-spot assessment of key communities in Maru Local Government Area and other strategic locations, as part of a broader UN evaluation of development needs and humanitarian conditions in the state.
The delegation accompanying her features senior UN officials, including representatives from agencies such as UNDP, UNICEF, UNHCR, UNODC, IOM, UNAIDS, and UNFPA, reflecting the significance of the mission and the scale of international interest in Zamfara’s development trajectory.
During high-level briefings with state authorities, Governor Dauda Lawal presents the administration’s roadmap for sustainable development, climate resilience, and inclusive economic growth through structured partnerships.
The governor explains that Zamfara stands at a critical turning point, with a population of over 5.3 million people and an economy largely driven by agriculture, which supports about 82% of residents.
According to Mediaplusng.com, he outlines the state’s “Six-Point Rescue Agenda,” describing it as a strategic framework designed to stabilize governance structures, rebuild public trust, and transition the state toward long-term sustainable development.
He emphasizes that ongoing reforms focus on improving security, strengthening institutions, and creating a more enabling environment for investment and infrastructure expansion.
UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed responds positively to the presentations, stating that the clarity of the government’s plans makes it easier for the United Nations to consider deeper collaboration.
She notes that development partners and investors require stability, peace, and a clearly defined policy direction, adding that Zamfara’s leadership demonstrates readiness to engage with global stakeholders.
She further stresses that while Zamfara has often been associated with insecurity narratives, the focus must now shift toward its economic and human development potential, particularly in agriculture and solid minerals.
The UN official highlights that peace remains the most critical requirement for attracting investment, noting that no meaningful development can occur without security and institutional stability.
She expresses optimism that ongoing infrastructure projects, including road construction, will improve connectivity, revive local markets, and enhance economic activities across communities.
According to Mediaplusng.com, she also underscores the importance of drawing global attention to local-level challenges, where vulnerable populations often experience the greatest impact of governance gaps and conflict-related disruptions.
She explains that UN visits are intended not only to assess conditions but also to amplify local realities and strengthen international support for affected populations.
Amina Mohammed praises the state government’s willingness to collaborate, noting that Zamfara demonstrates openness to institutional reform and partnership-driven development.
She adds that the United Nations is fully prepared to serve as a genuine partner to the state in areas such as peacebuilding, humanitarian response, education, and sustainable economic growth.
She also calls on all stakeholders, including government, civil society, and private sector actors, to contribute collectively to the state’s recovery and transformation process.
The UN delegation observes key sectors such as agriculture and mining, identifying significant opportunities for economic expansion if properly managed within a stable and secure environment.
Security analysts note that Zamfara’s evolving engagement with international institutions marks a shift toward rebuilding confidence and improving the state’s global development outlook.
Officials say the visit reinforces the importance of continued reforms aimed at addressing insecurity while unlocking economic potential across rural and urban communities.
The state government reiterates its commitment to implementing policies that promote peace, attract investment, and improve livelihoods for residents.
As discussions continue, both the United Nations and the Zamfara State Government express optimism that sustained cooperation will deliver long-term stability and inclusive growth.
The visit concludes with a shared commitment to deepen collaboration, strengthen governance systems, and ensure that development efforts translate into tangible improvements for the people of Zamfara State.
