A Nigerian national who worked on a Democratic congressional campaign in the United States has been arrested by immigration authorities following his guilty plea to a disorderly conduct charge linked to a public exposure incident.

The United States Department of Homeland Security, DHS, identifies the man as Chimaobim Adedayo Igbojekwe in a statement issued on October 7, 2026.

According to the department, authorities arrest Igbojekwe in East Pennsboro Township, Pennsylvania, on September 27 over allegations of indecent exposure and disorderly conduct. He subsequently pleads guilty to the disorderly conduct charge.

The DHS says Immigration and Customs Enforcement, ICE, takes him into custody on October 1, following his conviction.

Mediaplusng.com reports that, according to the DHS statement, Igbojekwe works as a canvasser for Janelle Stelson, the Democratic nominee for Pennsylvania’s 10th Congressional District, at the time of the incident.

The department, citing local media reports, alleges that he is found with his trousers off and exposing himself in a residential neighbourhood near a park used by residents, including children.

The incident draws a reaction from ICE Deputy Director Charles Wall, who criticises Stelson’s campaign for employing Igbojekwe.

Wall raises concerns about the employment of a person whose immigration status the department describes as unlawful, alongside the allegations surrounding the incident.

He says the Trump administration is committed to removing undocumented immigrants it considers dangerous to public safety.

However, the remarks represent the position of the US immigration authorities, while the criminal case and immigration proceedings remain separate matters.

The DHS also provides details of Igbojekwe’s immigration history.

According to the department, he enters the United States legally in June 2017 but remains in the country after his authorised period of stay expires in November 2019.

The statement adds that the Biden administration grants him deferred action in September 2021. Deferred action generally postpones immigration enforcement action for a specified period, but it does not itself provide lawful immigration status.

The department does not disclose further details about the current stage of his immigration proceedings or whether any additional legal action is pending.

The case comes amid continuing debate in the United States over immigration enforcement, public safety and the employment of non-citizens.

For now, the information released by the DHS confirms Igbojekwe’s arrest by ICE after his guilty plea to the disorderly conduct charge. Further details about his immigration case remain unclear.
