The Sokoto State Government has sealed an office occupied by the African Democratic Congress, ADC, following a dispute over the ownership of the property.

The state government says the premises will remain closed pending clarification from the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation, NDIC, on the ownership status of the building.

The Commissioner for Lands and Housing, Nasiru Dantsoho, announced the development in a statement issued on Monday.

According to the commissioner, the decision was taken to prevent further disturbances and safeguard lives and property following a recent confrontation involving supporters of the political party and individuals described as suspected miscreants.

Dantsoho explained that the government intervened after tensions reportedly escalated around the disputed property, raising concerns about public safety and the possibility of further confrontations.

The commissioner said the sealing of the premises was a precautionary measure intended to maintain public order while the relevant authorities establish the rightful ownership of the property.

The involvement of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation is expected to help clarify the ownership question, although the state government has not indicated when the verification process will be concluded.

The development comes at a time when political activities are gradually intensifying ahead of the 2027 general elections, placing increased attention on the activities and operations of political parties across the country.

For the African Democratic Congress, the closure affects an office occupied by the party in Sokoto State, pending the resolution of the property dispute.

However, the central issue remains the legal ownership of the premises and the circumstances surrounding the reported confrontation.

The clarification from the NDIC is expected to provide further direction on the dispute and help determine the next steps regarding the property.

Meanwhile, the state government maintains that its action is aimed at preventing a breakdown of law and order and ensuring the protection of lives and property.

Further developments are expected as the ownership verification process progresses.
