In a coordinated counter-terrorism operation, operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), with crucial support from the Nigerian military, neutralized 45 armed bandits near Kuchi town in Munya Local Government Area, Niger State. The operation, conducted in the early hours of Monday, June 2, 2025, is part of sustained efforts to combat insecurity and dismantle criminal strongholds in North Central Nigeria.

According to credible security sources, intelligence gathered from renewed covert surveillance revealed a planned large-scale assault on villages in Kuchi. The attack was reportedly orchestrated by notorious bandit leader Dogo Gide, who had mobilized over 100 heavily armed fighters from Bilbis Forest in Zamfara State and parts of Kaduna State.

Acting on this intelligence, the DSS and military forces launched a pre-emptive ambush at the outskirts of Kuchi, catching the insurgents by surprise. A fierce gun battle ensued, resulting in the elimination of 45 bandits, the seizure of arms, ammunition, and several motorcycles. The quick intervention reportedly averted what could have been a devastating attack on local communities.

Unfortunately, five DSS operatives sustained critical injuries during the confrontation and are currently receiving medical attention. Security experts describe the operation as a strategic victory that has dealt a significant blow to Dogo Gide’s network, which has recently lost ground to increased military pressure and intelligence-driven operations.

This latest success follows previous missions in the same region, where dozens of insurgents were eliminated. Community leaders and security analysts have commended the ongoing collaboration between intelligence and military units, urging that the momentum against banditry be sustained.

As the federal government intensifies its war on terrorism and rural insecurity, citizens hope these proactive measures will restore peace and safety to long-troubled communities in Niger and neighbouring states.
