In a major push to improve public transportation, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has unveiled three brand-new train sets, each consisting of four coaches, for the Lagos Blue Rail Line Corridor. The unveiling took place at the Iganmu Train Station, marking a key milestone in the state’s urban mobility strategy.
Governor Sanwo-Olu noted that the addition of these train sets will significantly boost the state’s transportation infrastructure, reducing travel time, easing congestion, and enhancing the daily commuting experience for millions of Lagosians. He stated that trains will now arrive every 10 to 15 minutes, cutting down wait times and increasing efficiency.
The governor attributed the successful delivery of the new trains to the support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, highlighting that the move aligns with both the federal government’s Renewed Hope Agenda and the Lagos THEMES Plus development agenda.
“These new train sets will double passenger capacity and provide Lagos residents with a more reliable and faster means of transport,” Sanwo-Olu said.
He also provided an update on the second phase of the Blue Rail Line, which will extend from Mile 2 to Okokomaiko. Construction, he said, is progressing steadily and is expected to be completed by 2026.
Governor Sanwo-Olu further revealed that additional rolling stock will arrive later this year for the Red Line rail project, as the government intensifies efforts to make Lagos a model for efficient, sustainable urban transportation in Africa.
The event was attended by key state officials, including the Managing Director of the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), Engr. Abimbola Akinajo, and members of the State Executive Council.
