A violent clash between farmers and herders has left at least 62 houses destroyed and one person injured in farming communities of Taraba State. The latest crisis, which erupted earlier this week, has displaced many residents and heightened tensions in the affected areas.
Local sources confirmed that the attack was carried out by suspected herdsmen, who invaded the communities, setting homes ablaze and forcing villagers to flee for safety.
In response, the Taraba State Government has begun distributing relief materials to victims of the clash. Items such as food supplies, mattresses, blankets, and other essential materials were delivered to help cushion the impact of the destruction.
The Taraba State Emergency Management Agency (TSEMA), alongside security agencies, is currently assessing the full extent of the damage and monitoring the situation to prevent further escalation.
Authorities are urging both farmers and herders to embrace peaceful coexistence, while also calling for increased security presence in the vulnerable communities.
This latest incident adds to the growing list of herder-farmer conflicts in Nigeria, which have remained a major threat to food security, rural livelihoods, and peaceful inter-communal relations.
