The Lagos State Government has officially sealed the Oko-Oba Abattoir in Agege due to persistent unsanitary practices, improper waste disposal, and unhygienic handling of animal products.
The shutdown follows a directive from the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, who led a team of state officials on an inspection of the facility on Thursday afternoon. Acting on the Commissioner’s orders, enforcement officers from the Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) and security personnel locked up the abattoir in the early hours of Friday, June 20, 2025.
The closure is part of the state’s ongoing efforts to improve public health and ensure environmental safety across major facilities handling food and livestock in Lagos. Authorities emphasized the importance of hygiene and proper waste management, particularly in locations dealing with consumables.
Residents and business owners have been urged to comply with all environmental regulations to avoid future enforcement actions.
