The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has clarified that the postponement of the 100th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting was due to statutory considerations and not an affront to the resolutions made at the 99th NEC session.
In a statement released after the party’s 601st NWC meeting, which took place on Sunday, June 29, 2025, at the PDP National Secretariat in Abuja, the leadership reiterated its commitment to transparency and due process.
The NWC meeting, which commenced at 5:02 pm and lasted one hour, had 9 out of the 16 serving NWC members in attendance, including the Acting National Chairman and the National Secretary. The meeting reached several important resolutions:
Key Highlights from the PDP 601st NWC Meeting:
1. Senator Samuel Anyanwu remains the National Secretary of the party, in line with INEC’s advisory and in the broader interest of party unity.
2. An Expanded National Caucus Meeting will hold on Monday, June 30, 2025, at 2:00 PM, at the PDP NEC Hall in Abuja.
3. Statutory notices for the meeting have been issued by the National Secretary in accordance with the PDP Constitution (2017 as amended).
The party leadership emphasized that the powers to summon and preside over party organs’ meetings lie with the National Chairman, while the National Secretary is responsible for issuing meeting notices, as outlined in Sections 35(1)(a), (c) and 36(1)(b) of the PDP Constitution.
Reaffirming the party’s direction, the PDP called on all members and stakeholders to prioritize the unity and survival of the party. “We must focus on stabilizing the PDP to play its role in rescuing and rebuilding Nigeria,” the statement read.
