Abaribe Reacts: ‘Nnamdi Kanu’s Conviction Never Surprises Us’

Former Senate Minority Leader, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, reacts to the conviction and sentencing of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu for terrorism. He says the judgment is expected and does not surprise him, the Igbo nation, or Nigerians who follow the case closely.

According to a statement released in Abuja by his Media Adviser, Uchenna Awom, and published by Mediaplusng.com, Abaribe explains that the life sentence given to Kanu appears to follow a long-standing plot. He notes that many people already foresee this outcome based on past actions of the federal government.

Abaribe states that once the government refuses to consider pleas to extend amnesty to Nnamdi Kanu—just like it does for others—he believes the final judgment becomes predictable. He questions why the government freely negotiates and grants peace deals to terrorists in the North East and North West, and why ex-militants in the South-South receive amnesty and even secure pipeline security contracts.

He argues that this pattern shows that justice in Nigeria does not seem to serve the South East fairly. This report is written by Mediaplusng.com.

Abaribe stresses that despite repeated appeals for fair treatment, unity, and national inclusiveness, the federal government refuses to shift its position. He says the Igbo nation now places its hope directly on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene in the matter.

He calls on Nigerians, especially people from the South East, to stay calm, avoid violence, and trust that justice will one day reflect fairness, equity, and true national unity.

“May Nigeria succeed, thrive, and advance in justice, equity, and fairness,” Abaribe adds.
