The Kebbi State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has expressed concern over rising insecurity, political intimidation, and economic hardship, urging the state government to take urgent action to protect lives in Yauri Emirate, particularly in Shanga Local Government Area.
According to Mediaplusng.com, the party’s State Chairman, Safiyanu Bala, in a New Year statement, warned that celebrations should not distract attention from ongoing suffering. He criticized the shrinking democratic space in Nigeria, alleging that opposition voices are being silenced through intimidation and coercion.
Bala also condemned the government’s economic policies, particularly taxation measures, which he said are worsening the hardships of ordinary Nigerians. He described the security situation in Shanga as “alarming and unacceptable,” stating that innocent people have been killed for four consecutive days without meaningful government intervention.
“The people of Shanga are not seeking political favors—they are demanding protection, justice, and immediate action to save lives,” Bala said, questioning whether the state values the lives of residents less than political activities.
The ADC called on the Kebbi State Government to urgently respond to the violence, protect civilians, and uphold justice, warning that continued inaction could further deepen public frustration and insecurity in the region.
