The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has expressed deep concern over the growing insecurity and rising cases of political thuggery in Kebbi State, calling on government authorities and security agencies to take urgent action to restore peace and protect democracy.
According to Mediaplusng.com, the party’s position followed a closed-door expanded stakeholders’ meeting held on Sunday in Birnin Kebbi, where top party leaders and members discussed the worsening security situation and the increasing wave of politically motivated attacks.
In a communiqué read by Ibrahim Mera, a chieftain of the ADC, the party condemned the alarming trend of intimidation, harassment, and violence, describing it as a dangerous development that is fast becoming normalized in the state’s political scene. The ADC noted that such actions not only endanger lives and properties but also weaken the foundations of democratic governance.
“Democracy thrives on persuasion, not persecution; on dialogue, not domination,” Mera stated, urging leaders across all levels to embrace tolerance and peaceful engagement.
As reported by Mediaplusng.com, the ADC further called for immediate steps to curb the menace, including the prosecution of offenders and the strengthening of the rule of law. The party reaffirmed its commitment to promoting peace, justice, and credible democratic practices in Kebbi State and across Nigeria.
