The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has expressed deep concern over the growing insecurity and increasing cases of political violence in Kebbi State, calling on government authorities and security agencies to take swift and decisive action.
According to Mediaplusng.com, the alarm was raised after an expanded stakeholders’ meeting held in Birnin Kebbi on Sunday, where party leaders and members met to discuss the rising threats to peace and democracy in the state.
In a communiqué presented by party chieftain Ibrahim Mera, the ADC condemned what it described as the “dangerous normalization” of political thuggery, intimidation, and violence. The party warned that such trends not only endanger public safety but also weaken democratic values and the confidence of citizens in the political process.
Quoting Mera, Mediaplusng.com reports that, “Democracy thrives on persuasion, not persecution; on dialogue, not domination.” He urged political actors to play by the rules and place the interest of the people above personal or partisan gains.
The ADC also called on security agencies to act firmly against those responsible for political violence and to strengthen the enforcement of laws that protect citizens and ensure peaceful political participation.
The party emphasized that protecting democracy in Kebbi State requires collective responsibility, transparency, and respect for the rule of law.
