Aina Adesola Assumes Duty as 23rd Delta Police Commissioner as Abaniwonda Moves to Force HQ

CP Aina Adesola assumes duty as the 23rd Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, succeeding AIG Olufemi Abaniwonda, who is transferred to the Force Headquarters following his recent promotion.

The transition is formally confirmed as CP Adesola takes over leadership of the command, pledging to strengthen security and build on existing policing frameworks across the state, Mediaplusng.com reports.

Born on September 2, 1968, in Ogun State, CP Adesola holds a degree in Sociology from Ondo State University and joins the Nigeria Police Force in 1994 as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police after training at the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, Kano.

Over the years, he serves in key operational, investigative, administrative, and training roles nationwide, bringing extensive experience to his new assignment in Delta State, Mediaplusng.com reports.

His career includes postings as Divisional Police Officer in Lagos, officer in charge of homicide and special squads, Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of finance and administration in Abia State, Commandant of the Police Training School in Ondo State, and Deputy Commissioner of Police in Rivers and Delta states.

Before his deployment to Delta State in January 2026, CP Adesola serves as Deputy Commandant of the Police College, Ikeja, after his promotion to the rank of Commissioner of Police in 2025.

He has also completed several leadership and professional courses within and outside Nigeria, including international law enforcement programmes in Botswana and the United States.

Described as disciplined, professional, and people-oriented, the new police chief is known for his commitment to community policing and crime prevention.

While assuming office, CP Adesola calls on residents to support security agencies and urges youths to shun crime and violence.

In his farewell remarks, AIG Olufemi Abaniwonda thanks the Delta State Government and residents for their cooperation during his tenure and asks for continued support for his successor.

CP Adesola assures residents that the Delta State Police Command under his leadership will remain proactive and firm in tackling crime and maintaining public safety across the state.
