Air Peace to Launch Direct Flights from Abuja to London Heathrow on October 26

In a major boost to Nigeria’s aviation industry, Air Peace has secured a coveted landing slot at London Heathrow Airport and will begin direct flight operations from Abuja to London starting October 26, 2025. The announcement follows a strategic diplomatic push by the Federal Government to enforce the Bilateral Air Services Agreement (BASA) between Nigeria and the United Kingdom.

The breakthrough comes months after Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo SAN, addressed a formal letter to the UK Secretary of State for Transport on August 1, 2024. The letter demanded fair treatment for Nigeria’s flag carrier, Air Peace, under the terms of the bilateral agreement, urging the UK to approve Heathrow access or face reciprocal action that could impact British Airways and Virgin Atlantic operations in Nigeria.

The UK has now granted Air Peace access to Heathrow Airport, a key milestone in Nigeria’s international aviation diplomacy.

> “This isn’t just a victory for Air Peace, but a strong signal that Nigeria is committed to enforcing fair terms in global aviation partnerships,” said Minister Keyamo. “It also supports President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda by empowering Nigerian businesses to compete on the global stage.”

This expansion follows Air Peace’s successful launch of direct Lagos–London Gatwick flights in March 2024, marking the airline’s entry into the UK market. The addition of the Abuja–Heathrow route is expected to improve travel options, increase competition, and boost economic ties between Nigeria and the UK.

The move also represents a significant leap forward for indigenous Nigerian airlines in accessing top-tier international hubs, ensuring better connectivity and service for travellers.

Air Peace’s new London Heathrow route is seen as a landmark achievement and a game-changer in Nigeria-UK aviation relations.
