The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has recovered 415 live cartridges, arrested the suspect in possession of the ammunition, and detained two commuters for obstructing police duties, Mediaplusng.com reports.

DSP Timfon John, Police Public Relations Officer, said the operation occurred on January 23, 2026, around 11:00 pm during a routine stop-and-search patrol along the Calabar–Itu Highway. Officers intercepted a commercial bus with registration number ARR600ZY en route to Calabar.

During a search, a carton containing 415 live cartridges was discovered. The driver, identified as Ikenna, claimed the ammunition belonged to an unknown consignment recipient in Calabar. Mediaplusng.com adds that one Ndubisi Raphael, a 36-year-old indigene of Nyaje village, Akamkpa LGA in Cross River State, was later arrested in connection with the ammunition.

The operation also led to the arrest of two commuters, “Excel” and Bright, who obstructed officers and engaged in provocative behavior. Bright claimed to be an ICPC official but could not produce valid identification. Both were taken into custody.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azae, has ordered a discreet and thorough investigation to determine the source and intended use of the ammunition, with the aim of prosecuting all responsible parties.

The command reiterated its commitment to combating illegal arms proliferation and warned the public against obstructing police operations. Residents were assured that the police remain dedicated to maintaining peace, public safety, and security across the state.
