The Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) has announced a lifetime flight ban on Ms. Comfort Emmanson after a violent incident aboard an Ibom Air flight from Uyo to Lagos on August 10, 2025.
According to AON, the decision came after reviewing Ibom Air’s official report, which revealed that Ms. Emmanson refused to follow safety instructions on mobile phone use. The situation escalated into what the airline described as a “brutal physical assault” on its crew. She allegedly attempted to use a fire extinguisher as a weapon during the altercation.
AON spokesperson, Prof. Obiora Okonkwo, condemned the act, describing it as one of the worst cases of unruly passenger behaviour recorded this year. He said the assault endangered the lives of crew members, passengers, and the safety of the aircraft.
“This behaviour is unacceptable,” Okonkwo stated. “Effective immediately, Ms. Emmanson has been placed on our ‘No Fly’ list. She is banned for life from flying with any airline under AON, both locally and internationally.”
The operators’ association also raised concerns over the growing cases of unruly passengers in recent months. It cited previous incidents, including the case involving Nigerian musician King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal (KWAM 1) on ValueJet and an alleged confrontation by Senator Adams Oshiomhole with Air Peace staff.
AON further expressed worry about lapses in aviation security responses during such incidents, urging the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) to strengthen safety measures at all airports.
Reaffirming its zero-tolerance policy on disruptive behaviour, AON advised passengers to express grievances lawfully and peacefully.
“We remain committed to protecting our staff, passengers, and equipment while upholding the highest safety standards,” the statement read.
