The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) has announced the official results of the just-concluded local government elections across the state.
According to RSIEC Chairman, the All Progressives Congress (APC) won in 20 local government areas, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secured victory in three councils. No other political party participated in the chairmanship or councillorship races, Mediaplusng.com reports.
Voter turnout was mixed across different regions. Rural communities recorded high participation, while urban centres such as Port Harcourt City, Obio/Akpor, and Akukutoro witnessed both large crowds in some polling units and low numbers in others.
Mediaplusng.com also reports that the list of winners released by RSIEC shows some elected chairmen returning for a second term, having previously served under the administration of former Governor Nyesom Wike.
The commission described the polls as peaceful, with security agencies deployed to ensure orderliness throughout the process.
