Suspected bandits launched a deadly attack on Tadurga village in Zuru Local Government Area of Kebbi State late Monday night, leaving several people feared dead, many abducted, and livestock stolen.
Eyewitnesses say the armed men stormed the village in large numbers, firing sporadically and looting shops before targeting residents. “They came in large groups, shot randomly, looted shops, killed innocent people, kidnapped others, and made away with our cattle,” said a local resident, Audu Sule.
The attack raises fresh concerns about the security situation in Kebbi State, potentially threatening the progress made under Governor Nasir Idris’s administration in curbing banditry and restoring peace in rural communities.
Another resident, Abdullah Zuru, acknowledged recent improvements in local security, which had allowed many farmers to return to their fields for the planting season. “We’ve had some peace in Zuru Emirate lately, but this incident is a serious setback,” he noted.
When contacted, the spokesperson for the Kebbi State Police Command, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, said he was not yet aware of the incident but assured the public that investigations would commence promptly.
As of the time of this report, the Police have not released an official statement regarding the attack.
