Mediaplusng.com reports that the Bauchi State Government has officially kicked off its 2025 Annual Tree Planting Campaign, targeting the planting of one million trees across all 20 local government areas. The initiative, which includes both economic and indigenous tree species, aims to combat climate change, promote environmental sustainability, and build community resilience.
Speaking during the flag-off ceremony in Dass Local Government Area—a community recently hit by a devastating windstorm—Governor Bala Mohammed urged local government authorities to integrate the campaign into every ward to ensure maximum impact.
The Governor emphasized that the state’s “One Person, One Tree” policy, introduced last year in collaboration with the World Bank–supported Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) project, will continue to drive tree ownership among residents.
Mediaplusng.com reports that free seedlings are being distributed to individuals, schools, and organizations. The state government has also pledged incentives and rewards to encourage participation and ensure the trees are nurtured to maturity.
Governor Mohammed performed a symbolic tree planting at the event, highlighting the importance of community involvement in protecting the environment for future generations. The Commissioner for Housing and Environment, Danlami Kawule, and ACReSAL Project Coordinator, Ibrahim Kabir, reaffirmed their commitment to making the campaign a success.
With the 2025 target firmly in sight, Bauchi State calls on all citizens to actively participate in building a greener, more climate-resilient future.
