The Borno State Police Command has recovered an Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) in Dikwa Local Government Area during a proactive security operation. The dangerous device, discovered on a farmland, was safely handled and neutralized to prevent any potential harm to residents.
According to Mediaplusng.com, the operation followed a report from a farmer, Babagana Kachalla, who noticed a suspicious object buried on his farmland. Acting swiftly, the Commissioner of Police, Borno State Command, CP Naziru Abdulmajid, directed the Commander of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Base 13, Maiduguri, and his team to the location.
Security sources confirmed that the object was identified as a Cluster Bomb Unit (CBU), measuring about 2.2 meters in length and 30 centimeters in width. In line with EOD-CBRN protocols, the area was cordoned off, and the operatives conducted an IN-SITU demolition before carefully extracting the cluster munitions plates. The entire operation was completed without incident, ensuring the safety of residents and farmlands.
Mediaplusng.com reports that community members were also educated through Explosive Ordnance Risk Awareness (EORA) sessions, aimed at sensitizing the public on safety measures whenever they come across suspicious or dangerous objects.
The Borno State Police Command reassured residents of its unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property. Citizens are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities or items immediately to the nearest police station.
For emergencies, the Police Command can be reached on: 0806 807 5581, 0802 347 3293.
