The Director-General of the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP), Mr. Adebowale Adedokun, has cautioned government officials against bypassing due process in the award and execution of contracts. He said strict adherence to procurement rules is crucial to Nigeria’s growth and development.
According to Mediaplusng.com, Mr. Adedokun stressed that failure to comply with established guidelines has slowed down the country’s developmental goals. He made this known in Abuja during a meeting with the newly inaugurated boards and management teams of three regional commissions under the Ministry of Regional Development.
The BPP boss explained that contrary to popular belief, procurement should not be viewed as a money-making avenue but rather a platform for selfless service. “If there is anything political leaders should be mindful of, it is procurement,” he said. “Your time in office will come and go, but the records will remain.”
Mediaplusng.com reports that Mr. Adedokun urged the staff of the South-South, South-West, and North-Central commissions to initiate projects that leave lasting impact at the grassroots. He warned against investing in short-term initiatives with little value. “It is not about buying Keke NAPEP or small generators,” he said. “Think of projects that in a few years will stand out, such as interconnected railways, modern hospitals, and strong educational systems.”
Mr. Adedokun reaffirmed the BPP’s commitment to enforcing transparency and accountability, noting that proper procurement remains the foundation of sustainable national development.
