The Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) has finalized decisions on 231 disciplinary cases involving officers of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Mediaplusng.com reports.

According to an official statement, the disciplinary actions followed detailed investigations conducted by the Board’s Disciplinary and General Purpose Committee (BDGPC), ensuring due process and compliance with service regulations.

Following the review, the CDCFIB approved various sanctions. Fifteen officers were dismissed for gross misconduct and violation of the Service’s code of conduct. Additionally, 59 personnel had their ranks reduced, while 42 were issued official warning letters for breaching professional standards.

In a commitment to fairness, the Board exonerated 16 officers found not guilty of the allegations. However, seven staff members remain on suspension, pending the outcome of ongoing investigations.

One particularly serious case resulted in the suspension of an officer who has been recommended for handover to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for prosecution.

The Board also approved the compulsory retirement of eight personnel, while one officer was ordered to refund earnings received while wrongfully holding a rank that has now been reversed.

Under the leadership of the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the CDCFIB reaffirmed its commitment to upholding integrity, transparency, and discipline across all services.

The Controller General of Corrections, Sylvester Nwauche, MFR, mni, assured the public that all disciplinary matters will continue to follow due process, emphasizing fairness and adherence to service guidelines.
