The Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Honourable Justice Kudirat Motonmori Olatokunbo Kekere-Ekun, GCON, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Nigeria’s former President, Muhammadu Buhari, who died in 2025 at the age of 83.
In a solemn statement, Justice Kekere-Ekun extended heartfelt condolences to the late president’s family, the government and people of Katsina State, and the entire nation. She described President Buhari as a distinguished statesman whose life and career were marked by integrity, discipline, and an unwavering commitment to public service.
“Although his passing is a moment of grief, we are grateful for a life devoted to the service of our country. President Buhari’s leadership—first as a military head of state and later as a two-term civilian president—demonstrated a rare consistency of purpose and belief in Nigeria’s potential,” the CJN stated.
She noted that Buhari’s legacy is one of resilience, national sacrifice, and steadfast dedication, adding that in times of changing values, his example stands as a reminder of the virtues of perseverance and principle-driven leadership.
Justice Kekere-Ekun called on all Nigerians to reflect on the former president’s contributions and be inspired by his lifelong pursuit of national development and unity.
“May his soul find eternal peace,” she concluded.
