COAS Appoints Senior Officers to Key Command Positions

n a move to strengthen leadership and improve efficiency within the Nigerian Army, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has approved a major reshuffle of senior officers across formations, commands, and training institutions.

According to a statement obtained by Mediaplusng.com, the new appointments are part of ongoing efforts to reposition the Nigerian Army for better operational effectiveness and strategic focus. The postings affect several high-ranking officers in key departments, including operations, administration, and training.

Under the new arrangement, Major General Bamidele Alabi becomes the Chief of Policy and Plans (Army) at Army Headquarters, while Major General Jamal Abdulsalam moves to Defence Headquarters as Chief of Defence Operations. Major General Peter Mala is now Commander of Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), and Major General Samson Jiya heads to Defence Headquarters as Chief of Defence Accounts and Budget.

Other notable movements include Major General Mayirenso Saraso as Chief of Operations (Army), Major General Isa Abdullahi as Chief of Administration (Army), and Major General Musa Etsu-Ndagi, who takes over as Chief of Civil-Military Affairs. Major General Abubakar Haruna is now Commander of the Nigerian Army Training Centre (NATRAC), and Major General Philip Ilodibia assumes duty as Chief of Defence Space Administration.

From information gathered by Mediaplusng.com, the reshuffle also affects corps and field commands. Major General Godwin Mutkut is now Corps Commander Infantry, Major General Umar Abubakar becomes Commander Armour Corps, while Major General John Adeyemo and Major General Mohammed Abdullahi take charge of Artillery and Signals Corps respectively.

In the same vein, Major General Taofik Sidick leads the Army Finance Corps, Major General Abdullahi Ibrahim heads the Ordnance Corps, Major General Adeyinka Adereti takes over the Electrical and Mechanical Engineers Corps, and Major General Nansak Shagaya commands the Supply and Transport Corps. Brigadier General Yusha’u Ahmed is appointed Acting Corps Commander Education.

The COAS also approved new Commandants for key Army schools, including Major General Oluyemi Olatoye at the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Major General Emmanuel Mustapha at the Nigerian Army Signal School, and Major General Adamu Hassan at the Nigerian Army School of Artillery.

Meanwhile, Major General Saidu Audu is appointed Force Commander of the Multi-National Joint Task Force (MNJTF) in N’Djamena, Major General Warrah Idris takes command of Joint Task Force North-West Operation FANSAN YAMMA, and Major General Oluremi Fadairo assumes duty as General Officer Commanding (GOC) 82 Division and Commander of Joint Task Force South-East Operation UDO KA.

Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu urges all newly appointed officers to demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and leadership in their new roles. He reminds them of the Army’s commitment to loyalty, discipline, and excellence while ensuring Nigeria’s security challenges are addressed with renewed vigour and collaboration across all sectors.
