Coastal Highway: Umahi Orders 24-Hour Work on Akwa Ibom Section

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, orders continuous, round-the-clock work on the Akwa Ibom stretch of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway. He directs that landscaping, tree planting, and solar lighting be installed along the highway for security and aesthetic improvements.

According to Mediaplusng.com, Umahi issues the directive while leading a high-powered delegation to inspect the Akwa Ibom section. Members of the Senate Committee on Works and key political stakeholders accompany him on the visit.

Describing the highway as a “non-negotiable catalyst for Nigeria’s industrial revolution,” Umahi explains that Section 3, spanning Akwa Ibom and Cross River, is strategically realigned from 65 km to 72 km to bypass a 19 km swamp. This adjustment, he says, will control costs while ensuring durability and long-term performance.

Mediaplusng.com reports that Umahi confirms President Tinubu has approved the payment of outstanding project certificates following funding transitions from the NNPC to the Ministry of Finance, pending verification. Hitech Construction Company, under direction from the Minister, has realigned sections 3A and 3B to reduce bridges and costly construction over the swamp.

Senator Barinada Mpigi, Chairman of the National Assembly Joint Committee on Works, pledges continued financial backing to ensure the timely and standard completion of the highway. The inspection tour demonstrates the federal government’s commitment to quality infrastructure and national development.
