Dangote Refinery Denies Mass Sack Claim, Says Over 3,000 Nigerians Still Employed

The management of Dangote Petroleum Refinery has dismissed reports of a mass sack of workers, confirming that more than 3,000 Nigerians are still actively working at the facility.

In a statement released on Friday, the company explained that only a small number of staff were affected by its ongoing reorganisation exercise. It stressed that the move is designed to strengthen operations and address repeated cases of sabotage within the refinery.

“Over 3,000 Nigerians continue to work actively in our Petroleum Refinery. Only a very small number of staff were affected, as we continue to recruit Nigerian talent through our graduate trainee programmes and experienced hire recruitment,” the statement said.

According to management, the restructuring became necessary after incidents of sabotage in different units of the refinery created safety risks and disrupted activities. The company noted that protecting the refinery is in the best interest of Nigerians, its African partners, and the thousands of people whose livelihoods depend on the project.

Reassuring its workforce, the refinery reaffirmed its commitment to international labour principles, including the right of workers to freely decide on union membership without interference.

It added that the reorganisation is part of an internal audit aimed at safeguarding the long-term stability of the multi-billion-dollar facility, which is regarded as a strategic national asset.

Dangote Refinery further pledged to continue working with regulators, employees, and stakeholders to uphold safety, transparency, and accountability in its operations.
