DISSOLVES AIR FORCE, NATIONAL SECURITY COMMITTEES, ORDERS SECURITY BRIEFINGS WITHIN ONE WEEK

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The Senate has dissolved its standing committees on the Air Force and on National Security and Intelligence, directing that both committees be reconstituted within one week. The decision followed concerns raised by Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele, who expressed disappointment over the committees’ poor oversight performance, Mediaplusng.com reports.

According to the Senate, the action became necessary to strengthen accountability and improve results in the fight against insecurity. Lawmakers said the dissolved committees had not met expectations, especially at a time when the country faces rising security challenges.

In addition, the Senate has instructed the chairmen of its committees on the Army, Navy, Defence, Interior, and Police Affairs to provide a detailed security briefing within one week. The briefing, to be delivered in a closed-door session, will highlight ongoing efforts to tackle insecurity nationwide and justify why each committee should remain in existence, Mediaplusng.com adds.

The Senate emphasized that Nigerians expect stronger oversight and better coordination from security-related committees, noting that the coming weeks will determine the next steps in strengthening national security management.
