The Department of State Services (DSS) has resumed the prosecution of Mohammed Usman, also known as Khalid Al-Barnawi, an alleged commander of the terrorist group Ansaru. The case is before Justice Emeka Nwite at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
According to Mediaplusng.com, Al-Barnawi and four others are facing trial for allegedly conspiring to carry out terrorist attacks in several northern states, including Sokoto, Kebbi, Bauchi, Borno, and Gombe, between 2011 and 2013.
Prosecutors accuse the defendants of being members of Jama’atu Ansarul Muslimina Fi Biladis Sudan, widely known as Ansaru, a splinter group linked to Boko Haram. The charges also cover alleged coordination of violent crimes and threats to national security.
As reported by Mediaplusng.com, the trial is seen as a key step in Nigeria’s fight against insurgency, with security experts noting that convictions could send a strong message about the government’s resolve to tackle terrorism.
