Top delegates from member states of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) are convening at the State House Banquet Hall in Abuja for the 67th Ordinary Session of the Authority of Heads of State and Government.
This high-level meeting marks the first gathering since the December 2024 summit, where ECOWAS formally acknowledged the withdrawal of Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger from the regional bloc. The current session is expected to focus on critical political and security issues affecting the West African sub-region.
The summit also coincides with the beginning of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second term as Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority. He was unanimously re-elected on July 7, 2024, following the completion of his initial one-year tenure which began on July 9, 2023.
As ECOWAS navigates complex geopolitical dynamics, the Abuja session is seen as pivotal for shaping the future of regional cooperation, integration, and stability.
