EFCC Chairman Commends NDDC for Transparency, Commissions Training Centre in Bayelsa

The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Olanipekun Olukayede, has applauded the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) for its commitment to transparency, accountability, and effective use of public funds.

Speaking in Bayelsa State during the commissioning of two completed projects—the NDDC Multipurpose Training Centre in Ogbia Local Government Area and the Commission’s Bayelsa State Office in Yenagoa—Olukayede said the current NDDC leadership is promoting good governance and restoring public confidence in the Commission.

The newly built Renewed Hope Multipurpose Training Centre in Otuokpoti community is a modern facility equipped with classrooms, accommodation blocks, a clinic, staff quarters, an ambulance bay, and other infrastructure. It will also function as a safety and IDP (Internally Displaced Persons) camp during flood emergencies.

NDDC Managing Director, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, revealed that the centre was constructed using funds recovered by the EFCC. He credited the EFCC for supporting the Commission’s renewed drive for people-oriented development.

Minister of Niger Delta Development also praised President Tinubu for maintaining leadership stability in the NDDC and acknowledged the Board’s achievements under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Olukayede, who once hesitated to meet with the NDDC leadership due to past issues of mismanagement, noted that his perception changed after meeting the new management team. He described the NDDC’s transformation as a bold step toward financial discipline and project transparency.

At the commissioning of the NDDC Bayelsa Office, named in honour of former Old Rivers State Governor, Melford Okilo, Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri lauded the Commission for contributing to the development of Yenagoa and assured continued collaboration beyond political differences.

With more projects planned, the EFCC Chairman confirmed that additional recovered funds would soon be released to the NDDC, citing the Commission’s recent achievements as proof of its renewed credibility.
