At least eight people are confirmed dead following coordinated attacks by suspected gunmen on Kaiwa, Gelawu and Gebbe villages in Shanga Local Government Area of Kebbi State. The attacks, which occur without warning, trigger panic and force many residents to flee their homes to nearby communities and surrounding bushes in search of safety.

According to Mediaplusng.com, the Kebbi State Police Command confirms that seven people die during the attacks, while another victim later dies from injuries sustained. One other injured resident is currently receiving medical treatment and is said to be responding to care, as security agencies move quickly to stabilise the affected areas.

Eyewitnesses say the assailants storm the villages in a coordinated manner, attacking residents and causing widespread fear. Many families abandon their homes overnight, while others hide in nearby bushes to escape harm. Community members describe the attacks as shocking, noting that the area has enjoyed relative peace for several years before the latest violence.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer in Kebbi State, SP Bashir Usman, says security agencies immediately launch joint operations across the affected communities. He explains that the police, working with other security agencies, intensify patrols and surveillance to prevent further attacks and track down those responsible.

As reported by Mediaplusng.com, the police say tactical teams are deployed to strategic locations in Shanga Local Government Area, while intelligence-led operations are ongoing to identify and arrest the perpetrators. The command adds that details of the operation remain limited to avoid compromising security efforts.

Residents of Kaiwa, Gelawu and Gebbe villages recount harrowing experiences, saying the sudden nature of the attacks leaves many traumatised. Some residents say they are afraid to return home, even as security presence increases in the area. Others appeal for urgent government intervention to prevent a repeat of the violence.

Security operatives maintain visible patrols across the affected villages and surrounding routes, reassuring residents of continued protection. The police command says it is working closely with local vigilante groups and community leaders to gather intelligence that will aid the ongoing manhunt.

The Kebbi State Police Command reassures residents that restoring peace and protecting lives remain top priorities. It urges members of the public to remain calm, cooperate with security agencies, and report any suspicious movement or information that could help bring the attackers to justice.

Authorities also call on residents to avoid spreading unverified information that could heighten fear or disrupt security operations. The police promise to provide updates as investigations and operations progress, while efforts continue to restore normalcy to the affected communities.

The attacks come amid renewed concerns over rural security in parts of Kebbi State, with residents calling for sustained security presence and proactive measures to protect vulnerable communities. Security agencies say they remain committed to ensuring that those responsible for the killings are brought to justice and that peace returns to Shanga Local Government Area.
