The father of the abducted bride in Chacho village, Wurno Local Government Area of Sokoto State, confirms that 13 people were taken during the midnight attack that hit the community. The victims include the bride, her bridesmaid, two male relatives, and nine other women.
According to Mediaplusng.com, Malam Umaru Chacho tells journalists—including the Channels TV crew—that the bandits invaded the village around 12 a.m. and headed straight to the bride’s family compound. He says the attackers entered the rooms of the bride and her bridesmaid, repeatedly asking for their whereabouts. The family is still unsure whether the attack specifically targeted the young bride.
He also explains that one person—believed to be the bride’s brother—was shot and seriously injured during the invasion. Because Chacho lacks medical facilities, the victim had to be rushed to another community for treatment. Mediaplusng.com reports that this attack is the tenth bandit assault on Chacho in five years, with more than 30 residents killed and many others displaced.
The father of the abducted bride pleads for urgent intervention from the government and security agencies, saying the community is overwhelmed by fear and long-standing trauma. Despite being a large settlement, Chacho suffers from poor infrastructure, which residents say worsens their situation and slows emergency response.
Malam Umaru adds that the kidnappers have contacted the family but have made no ransom demand yet. Instead, they insist on speaking directly with the traditional ruler of the community as the next step.
