Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, says the Oyo State Government receives a ₦50 billion intervention fund from the Federal Government following the January 2024 Ibadan explosion, as he releases documents to support his claim amid a public exchange with Governor Seyi Makinde.
Fayose states that he previously made the allegation on national television and is now presenting what he describes as evidence after Governor Makinde challenges him to prove the claim, according to Mediaplusng.com. He maintains that the funds are approved as federal intervention to support victims and recovery efforts after the explosion.
The former governor alleges that only ₦4.5 billion reaches victims, while the balance is diverted to other purposes. He links the alleged diversion to wider political tensions within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Governor Makinde’s recent criticisms of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
In a detailed statement monitored by Mediaplusng.com, Fayose says he decides to publish the documents to ensure transparency and allow Nigerians to judge the facts. He argues that once private discussions with the President become public, full disclosure becomes necessary in the public interest.
Fayose further challenges Governor Makinde to seek legal redress if the claims are untrue, insisting that he stands by his assertions. He also alleges that there are additional federal intervention funds received by Oyo State that, according to him, are not fully disclosed to the public.
The former Ekiti governor adds that he holds documents relating to Oyo State’s internally generated revenue, which he claims contradicts official figures presented by the state government. However, he says he will release further details at a later time.
As of the time of this report, the Oyo State Government has not issued a detailed response to the specific documents released by Fayose. Governor Makinde has previously denied receiving ₦50 billion for the Ibadan explosion and asks for verifiable proof to support the allegation.
The development continues to generate reactions within political and civic circles, with calls for clarity, transparency, and independent verification of all claims related to public funds and disaster relief.
