The Senator Nenadi Usman–led Labour Party (LP) has accused its sacked former national chairman, Barrister Julius Abure, of allegedly forging a Nasarawa State High Court order directing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to upload the list of LP candidates for the forthcoming FCT council elections, Mediaplusng.com reports.
In a statement issued on Friday by Ken Asogwa, Senior Special Adviser on Media to Senator Usman, the party described the alleged court order as “suspicious and mischievous,” noting that its release came on the eve of nationwide bye-elections.
The reaction comes less than 12 hours after Abure’s faction presented a court order asking INEC to upload its candidates’ names for the FCT council polls.
According to Mediaplusng.com, Asogwa clarified that the court order presented by Abure was connected to elections scheduled for February next year, not the current exercise.
“Given Abure’s notorious record in matters of forgery, this development, if true, would come as no surprise,” Asogwa said. He also recalled Abure’s alleged involvement in document manipulation during the 2023 Ebonyi State governorship election — a matter the Attorney-General of the Federation had directed the police to prosecute.
The LP statement further accused Abure of “forum shopping” by seeking relief from a Nasarawa State High Court in a matter that, according to the party, falls under the exclusive jurisdiction of the Federal High Court. Asogwa maintained that since INEC is a federal institution, a state high court lacks lawful authority in the case.
The party also reminded Nigerians that the Supreme Court had, on April 4, 2025, removed Abure from office in a landmark judgment. However, it alleged that the former chairman has been emboldened by the APC-led Federal Government to continue what it described as “contempt of court and reckless abuse of judicial processes.”
The statement concluded by warning that such political alliances risk undermining both the Labour Party and Nigeria’s democratic institutions.
