The Federal Government reassures parents and the Catholic community in Niger State that the abducted pupils of St. Mary’s Private Catholic Primary and Secondary School, Papiri, “are doing fine and will return soon.”
According to Mediaplusng.com, National Security Adviser (NSA) Nuhu Ribadu gives this assurance during his visit on Monday to the Catholic Bishop of Kontagora Diocese, Most Rev. Bulus Dauwa Yohanna, and parents of the abducted pupils at St. Michael’s Catholic Cathedral, Kontagora.
Ribadu delivers President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s message of hope, stating that rescue efforts are progressing and security forces have intensified operations in the affected area. Mediaplusng.com reports that the President has suspended all engagements, including an official trip, because of the incident.
“This is a solemn and painful moment, especially after hearing from the parents,” Ribadu says. “We take responsibility because it is our duty to protect you. Mr. President is deeply concerned and fully involved.”
The NSA calls for unity and warns Nigerians not to allow “the common enemy” to divide the nation. He adds that the government will not relent in its mission to defeat those behind the attacks.
Ribadu is accompanied by the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Bernard Doro; DSS Director General, Oluwatosin Ajayi; and CAN Northern Chairman, Rev. Joseph Hayab. He praises Bishop Yohanna for his calm leadership and assures the Church and families of full government support.
He also reveals that global partners—including the United States, France, and the United Kingdom—are offering support in the broader fight against insecurity. Ribadu expresses confidence that the children will return safely, stressing, “Evil will never win.”
Bishop Yohanna thanks President Tinubu and Ribadu for their visit, providing a detailed briefing before a closed-door meeting. The school principal, Rev. Sister Felicia Gyang, and a parents’ representative, Mr. Luka Iliya, share insights into how the attack occurred and the emotional toll on affected families.
