FG Clarifies Subject Choices Under Senior Secondary Curriculum as WAEC Registration Continues

The Federal Government moves to calm growing concerns among students, parents and school owners over the ongoing WASSCE registration, confirming that no subject has been cancelled or restricted under the revised Senior Secondary School Curriculum.

According to Mediaplusng.com, confusion had spread in recent days, with many students fearing that Digital Technology (formerly ICT) and several trade subjects were removed or limited to specific departments.

In a joint statement, Minister of Education Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa and Minister of State for Education Prof. Sa’id Suwaiba Ahmad explain that all approved subjects remain fully open to every student. They say the curriculum is flexible and student-centred, allowing learners to pick subjects that match their interests and career goals.

As Mediaplusng.com reports, the ministers clarify that ICT is only renamed Digital Technology, with no change to the content. Students who took ICT can freely register for Digital Technology in WASSCE.

On trade subjects, the government says six are approved. A student may register for any of them, but only if the school teaches it and the student has received proper instruction. Those who were not taught a trade subject are not required to register for one.

The ministry urges parents, counsellors and school administrators to avoid misinformation and guide students correctly as registration continues. It also reaffirms its commitment to a smooth and inclusive WAEC registration process nationwide.
