The Federal Ministry of Education has officially dismissed as false the viral claims that the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) was cancelled due to widespread malpractice. In a statement released on Sunday, the Ministry confirmed that the WAEC exams concluded successfully, with only a few isolated incidents of malpractice—which were swiftly handled by the appropriate authorities.
The Ministry also clarified that the ongoing NECO examinations are proceeding smoothly, with no recorded cases of misconduct so far. It emphasized that no official statement has been issued by WAEC, NECO, or any accredited examination body to suggest any cancellations or major irregularities. The public, especially students and parents, are urged to ignore such misinformation and instead rely on verified channels for credible updates.
To avoid the spread of falsehoods, the Ministry advised the public to confirm information through its official website (www.education.gov.ng), as well as the WAEC and NECO portals. It further warned that sharing fake news is a criminal offence, adding that those behind the misleading reports will be investigated and prosecuted by the relevant security agencies.
