FG Mourns Victims of Borgu Boat Mishap

The Federal Government has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic boat accident in Borgu, Niger State, which claimed about 32 lives. The incident comes just four months after devastating floods hit Mokwa in the same state, leaving lasting scars on the people.

According to Mediaplusng.com, the government extended condolences to the families of the victims, the Niger State Government, and all residents affected by the tragedy. Officials say prayers and support are with the survivors and grieving families.

The Federal Government, through the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), has pledged relief assistance in collaboration with the Niger State Government. Mediaplusng.com reports that the state’s emergency team acted swiftly in carrying out rescue operations, ensuring that all passengers on board the ill-fated boat were accounted for.

Authorities are urging Nigerians to prioritize safety on waterways. Travellers have been reminded to always wear protective life jackets when embarking on boat journeys, stressing that such precautions often mean the difference between survival and tragedy.

The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has also been directed to begin a nationwide sensitization campaign to educate citizens on safety measures while using inland waterways.
