The Federal Government has directed a full-scale investigation into a viral video alleging the neglect of accident victims at the Emergency Unit of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Jabi, Abuja.
The disturbing footage, widely shared on social media, shows road accident victims reportedly left unattended by hospital staff after being brought in by a good Samaritan. According to the individual who filmed the video, he found the injured victims along the road and rushed them to the hospital for emergency treatment.
However, upon arrival, hospital staff allegedly refused to offer immediate help, with one worker claiming there were no gloves available. Moments later in the same video, medical personnel were seen assisting and moving at least one of the severely injured victims into the emergency unit. Other victims were also seen entering the hospital on foot, despite visible injuries.
In response to the public outcry, FMC Abuja issued an official statement on Sunday through its Public Relations Officer, Obadiah Gana. The statement confirmed that a thorough internal investigation is already underway.
Preliminary findings reveal that the hospital’s emergency unit had an adequate stock of essential medical supplies, including gloves, resuscitation tools, and medications. The facility also clarified that trolleys and wheelchairs were available at the time of the incident.
The hospital emphasized its commitment to service excellence and transparency. Gana noted that FMC Abuja operates open communication channels such as QR codes, visible phone numbers, and email contacts to receive public feedback and improve patient care.
