The Federal Government has successfully rescued 11 Nigerian miners who were stranded in the Central African Republic, Mediaplusng.com reports. The miners arrived safely at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on Thursday, August 14, 2025, aboard an ASKY Airlines flight. Their return was coordinated by Nigeria’s Ambassador to the Central African Republic, Babagana Ahmed, and received by a Federal Government delegation led by the Director of Search and Rescue at the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Air Commodore Kenneth Oyong.
Upon arrival, the miners underwent immigration and security screening before being formally received at the Hajj Terminal. Speaking on behalf of the Federal Government, NEMA’s Director General, Zubaida Umar, reaffirmed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to safeguarding Nigerians in distress anywhere in the world. She commended the support of the Office of the National Security Adviser, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Nigerian Intelligence Agency in ensuring the operation’s success.
According to Ambassador Babagana Ahmed, the miners were abandoned by their employers in a remote part of the Central African Republic before seeking help from the Nigerian Embassy in Bangui. Mediaplusng.com gathered that embassy officials quickly moved into action, facilitating their safe return home.
Speaking on behalf of the rescued miners, Freeborn Igorigo expressed gratitude to President Tinubu and the Federal Government, describing the intervention as a timely rescue and a dignified reception.
