The Federal Government says at least 130 kilometers of the Kebbi corridor on the Sokoto-Badagry Super Highway will be completed before the end of next year.
Minister of Works, David Umahi, made this known on Friday during an inspection of the project site in Gulumbe town, Birnin Kebbi Local Government Area. He described the road as the single largest project in Nigeria, valued at over N1.8 trillion.
According to Mediaplusng.com, Umahi praised President Bola Tinubu for turning a 47-year-old vision into reality. The project was first conceived under the late President Shehu Shagari, but no administration has taken it this far. He added that at least 50 kilometers will be ready before the President’s scheduled visit in May 2026.
The Minister also confirmed that funds have been released for compensation to individuals and communities affected by land acquisition. However, he explained that payments would only be made directly into bank accounts to ensure transparency. Eight Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs) have also been engaged to defend the project against legal challenges, reports Mediaplusng.com.
Umahi further commended Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris for supporting the project with logistics and security. He also appreciated security agencies and the Office of the National Security Adviser for their backing, which he said was crucial for the success of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Minister of State for Works, Bello Goronyo, said the road will not only connect Illela International Market but also boost trade along a 1,000km stretch linking Nigeria to Mali, Togo, and other West African countries.
The 1,068-kilometre Sokoto-Badagry Super Highway, inaugurated in October 2024, is a flagship project under President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at expanding infrastructure and opening new economic opportunities nationwide.
