A fire incident occurred on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at the Imaratus Sanan Hotel located on Shari Mansur Street in Makkah, Saudi Arabia. The hotel was accommodating 484 Nigerian pilgrims under six private tour operator companies participating in this year’s Hajj exercise.
According to the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), the fire broke out around 12:00 noon Saudi time but was swiftly contained through the rapid response of Saudi emergency services and hotel management. Fortunately, there were no casualties, and all affected pilgrims had already departed for Mina as part of their Hajj rites.
In a swift response to the incident, NAHCON Chairman/CEO, Professor Abdullahi Saleh Usman, along with Commissioner for Policy, Personnel Management and Finance, Alhaji Aliu Abdulrazak, and Deputy Makkah Coordinator, Director Alidu Shutti, visited the site to assess the damage and oversee arrangements for the pilgrims’ welfare.
Professor Abdullahi expressed deep concern over the incident and ordered the immediate relocation of the affected pilgrims to alternative accommodations. He also assured them of the Commission’s commitment to providing support to cushion the impact of the fire.
While inspecting the new facility, the NAHCON Chairman gave thanks that no lives were lost and appreciated the prompt intervention of the Saudi emergency teams. He also commended the efforts of the hotel staff and pledged continued collaboration with private tour operators to ensure seamless resettlement and comfort for the pilgrims.
