A major fire outbreak has razed the renowned Kara Wood and Timber Market in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State, causing massive destruction of shops and goods worth millions of naira.
The inferno, which started in the early hours of Sunday, rapidly engulfed a large section of the market before emergency services could respond. Eyewitnesses reported that the fire spread quickly, leaving traders helpless.
> “We saw thick smoke rising, and suddenly, flames were everywhere. Many shops were gone within minutes,” said Musa Bello, a trader at the market.
As of the time of reporting, the exact cause of the fire remains unknown. However, no lives were lost in the incident.
The Kebbi State Government has extended its condolences to affected traders. In a statement released by the Governor’s Senior Special Assistant on New Media, Abuzaid Yari, the fire was described as a tragic and unforeseen event.
> “This is an unfortunate incident and indeed the will of Allah. The government stands with the victims and prays for recovery and strength,” Yari stated.
He also praised the swift intervention by the Kebbi State Fire Service, which helped contain the fire and prevent further destruction.
> “We commend the fire service for their prompt response. Their quick action helped reduce the scale of the damage,” he added.
The Kebbi State Government reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property while promising to support those affected by the disaster.
